  • This course helps veterinary professionals better understand the profession by covering the following topics:

    • The difference between the veterinary profession and the veterinary industry. 
    • The various types of veterinary practice.
    • Regulation of the veterinary profession.
    • Veterinary professionals.
    • Acts of Veterinary Surgery as defined in law.
    • The relevance of the RCVS's Practice Standards Scheme.
  • You will be presented with a course module followed by an assessment.
  • If you achieve 80% or more, you pass the course and will receive a printable certificate. If you do not pass, you will have the opportunity to review the content and retake the assessment when you feel confide

Aims

This course covers the difference between the veterinary profession and the veterinary industry and details the various types of veterinary practices and veterinary professionals within it. It also explains regulation of the profession as defined by law, acts of veterinary surgery, and the relevance of the RCVS Practice Standards Scheme. 

Objectives

During this course learners will be able to:

  • Understand the difference between the veterinary profession and the veterinary industry. 
  • Be aware of the different types of veterinary practice (species, ownership, first opinion vs. referral).
  • Understand regulation of the veterinary profession (The Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966, The RCVS, and The Veterinary Medicines Regulations 2011).
  • Know the different types of Veterinary Professionals (definitions and regulations).
  • Understand acts of Veterinary Surgery as defined in law (Schedule 3 Exemptions).
  • Understand the role and relevance of the RCVS's Practice Standards Scheme.
